Features Of The Month!!!!

Dogfish Head Squall IPA

The best IPA ever made just got better.  Dogfish Head has taken the world famous 90 minute IPA and tweaked it in such an awesome way.  An unfiltered, super-pungent imperial I.P.A. clocking in at 9% ABV and dry-hopped with Palisade, Amarillo, Simcoe, Cascade, CTZ, and Willamette hops.  It results in a more west coast style brew and is just delicious.  We didn't think perfection could be improved on but this beer may just have proven us wrong.  This will be poured this Friday at the tasting so be sure to get here early so you can get a taste!!

Deschutes Has Landed
Oh thanks to the beer gods!!  Our prayers have finally been answered!  The pride and joy of Bend, Oregon has finally made it to the Lone Star State!  Deschutes Brewery has been handcrafting some of the best beer around for 20 years, and we are super stoked to have them on the shelf.  So far we have received Black Butte Porter, Mirror Pond Pale Ale and Inversion IPA.  We are expecting seasonals and special editions in the near future as well.  Black Butte Porter is arguably the best American Porter around.  Chocolate and crystal malt are used creating a rich but approachable porter.  The Mirror Pond Pale Ale ale has a distinctive, lingering hop flavor attained by adding copious quantities of Cascade hops throughout the brewing process.  Its a drier style that has been a classic in the Northwest for a long time.  The Inversion IPA is a sweeter styled IPA but is so drinkable.  We will be pouring the Black Butte Porter at the tasting, so come in and sample!!

North Coast Old Stock
Now this is Barleywine style ale right here.  Super traditional, very heavy, complex and sweet.  It’s brewed with classic floor-malted Maris Otter Pale Malt and Fuggles Hops imported from England, so it’s a beer to be served proudly. Like a fine wine, North Coast’s Old Stock Ale is intended to be laid down. With an original gravity of over 1100 and a generous hopping rate, Old Stock Ale is well-designed to round-out and mellow with age. North Coast Brewing Co. Old Stock Ale is a vintage dated ale. They only produce a small quantity each year and it remains available from release date until their stock is depleted.  This wont be around for very long so be sure to grab a four pack before its too late!!

Harpoon Single Hop ESB

The 31st offering from the Harpoon 100 Barrel Series is the Single Hop ESB, brewed by Harpoon brewer Charlie Cummings.  Already excited about crafting an Extra Special Bitter, Charlie jumped at the rare opportunity to brew this beer using one hop varietal, Delta, exclusively throughout the process.  The Delta hop is a brand new American-grown hop developed by Hopsteiner.  In fact, the Harpoon Single Hop ESB is the first beer in the world to be commercially brewed using the Delta hop.  A cross between Fuggle and Cascade hops, Delta hops yield an unrestrained earthy-floral aroma and taste that compliment the rich flavors of traditional British malts and yeast.  The recipe for this beer is a nod to the beloved Harpoon ESB, which was last brewed in 2002. However this version uses imported ingredients,  except for the domestically grown Delta hops.  Only a portion of the batch was filtered, leaving the full spectrum of flavor and aroma of this special new hop to enjoy.  This is a limited run but we will be pouring this tasty brew on Friday anyway!!

Brooklyn Sorachi Ace

Brooklyn Sorachi Ace is a saison, or farmhouse ale, featuring a new hop from Japan, developed just a few years ago, from which the beer takes its name.  Most Brooklyn beers are made with a blend of hop varietals. As a chef does with spices, they look to get the best qualities of each hop and create a harmony of flavors and aromas. However, a few years ago, they ran into a hop unique enough to deserve its own moment in the sun. A large Japanese brewery first developed the hop variety "Sorachi Ace" in 1988. A cross between the British "Brewer's Gold" and the Czech "Saaz" varieties, it exhibited a quality that was unexpected - it smelled really lemony.  The unique flavor of Sorachi Ace was bypassed by the big brewers, but they think it's pretty cool. Brooklyn Sorachi Ace is a classic saison, a cracklingly dry, hoppy unfiltered golden farmhouse ale, but made entirely with now-rare Sorachi Ace hops grown by a single farm in Oregon. Its fermented with a special Belgian ale strain, and then more Sorachi Ace hops are added post-fermentation. After the dry-hopping, the beer emerges with a bright spicy lemon zest aroma backed by a wonderfully clean malt flavor. It tastes like sunshine in a glass, time to get your summer on people.
